2018 Castelli-Knight Vineyard Pinot Noir

$48.00 / 750ml bottle

Club: $36.00 / 750ml bottle

Castelli-Knight Ranch is located in the northern section of the Russian River Valley AVA, in the coveted area along Eastside Road. Approximately 4 acres of two different clones of Pinot Noir (777 and 115) were planted on the rolling hills of the ranch in 1997. The soil structure consists of sandy loam and red clay with very little topsoil, creating a stressful, low-vigor environment in which Pinot Noir excels.
The grapes were gently hand-harvested before dawn to ensure cold fruit arrives at the winery. They are hand sorted before being slowly destemmed into an open top tank. Grape skins were held in contact with the wine for 15 days before barrelling. The wine was racked once in the spring and aged over 16 months before being bottled.

Tasting notes

The deep garnet colored wine begins to release rich aromas of red fruits and baking spices. Fragrances of Maraschino cherries and strawberry turnovers are nostalgic. The wine continues to open up showcasing raspberry marmalade and toasted cashews. The entry is bright and fresh, with flavors of juicy plums and soft strawberries dancing on the palate. The wines fine, plush mouthfeel balances the expanding finish with subtle characteristics of cola and candied fruit. Winemaker Brandon Lapides
